After moving to Colorado from the Midwest at 21, I fell deeply in love with the West and fly fishing. I cut my teeth in the Rocky Mountains, then started traveling as soon as I could afford it. Fisheries like the Clearwater, Alaska, and the Yucatan were my first loves. A true guide finds purpose in sharing that love with others. That has been my passion for more than 20 years, and though the road to success was challenging, I wouldn't change a day of it. My family has been by my side every step of the way, especially my wife and partner Rosie Sprecher.

Why Alaska

How It Started How It Started
In 2007 I started my first fly shop and guide service with a close friend outside Vail, Colorado. I had a lust for travel and a drive to find opportunities that hadn't already been discovered. In 2012 I traveled to Alaska after our busy Colorado trout season. Trout was my work, but steelhead were my passion. What was supposed to be a 10-day trip became a three-week adventure when a 50-year storm hit just after we landed in Anchorage. Every river on the peninsula closed or blew out. We eventually found the Kasilof, which would later become our most prized river at Alaska Steelhead Co. The river was barely off its beautiful glacial blue and absolutely loaded with steelhead. We spent many days there while the Anchor and Deep Creek subsided. I fell in love with the rivers and possibilities the peninsula offered, met a mutual friend from Alaska that year, and our all-inclusive program was born. Our first guests arrived in 2013. It was simply too special not to share.

I started fly fishing in the Sierra Nevada for trout in high school, then found steelhead at Chico State. Steelhead changed everything. Literally, they changed my entire path in life. The rivers of the Pacific Northwest, the ones that connect directly to the ocean, are the waters that continue to inspire me. I've been guiding fly fishing since 2004, working out of The Fly Shop in Redding, California.
Why Alaska
"The diversity of water types at ASC is incredible. We have big water where you can boom casts with the Spey rod, and tiny creeks where you need to fish like a surgeon with just half the head out. Every day is different, and it's amazing to see how adaptable steelhead are to every diverse river habitat. A couple of my secret spots are what brings me back year after year. You'll have to come fish them with me to find out."
